Renault launched the fourth generation of the Renault Master last year, and like its predecessor, there’s an all-electric E-Tech version. The new Master E-Tech comes with two batteries and will be available starting in the spring.
From the outside, the new Master E-Tech looks almost identical to its two diesel alternatives, apart from an additional body-coloured panel on the front bumper and a charging flap on the front wing.
Renault pointed out that the new Master benefits from the aerodynamically focused ‘Aerovan’ concept, resulting in a 20% improvement in drag coefficient compared to the previous model.
Master E-Tech buyers have two battery capacities to choose from: 40kWh and 87kWh. Both have the same payload capacity of 1,625kg, but this is far less than the Diesel Master’s maximum payload of 2,396kg. At least that’s better than the old Master E-Tech’s 1,420kg figure, and he’s also rated to tow 2.5 tonnes.
The 40kWh version can travel up to 124 miles on a single charge (testing), and the 87kWh model has a WLTP-rated range of 285 miles. When it comes to charging, there’s a fast charging limit of 130kW, which can add 156 miles in 30 minutes.
The small battery Renault Master E-Tech has a 128bhp electric motor, while the larger battery has a 140bhp motor and 300Nm of torque. These are both significant increases compared to his 79bhp and 210Nm of torque in the old model. Renault has added a Dynamic Braking System that not only improves braking power but also recovers energy from the brakes to help recharge the battery.
Master E-Tech also has “vehicle-to-load” and “vehicle-to-grid” capabilities, which allow you to use the battery to charge external devices such as power tools, computers, refrigerators, and machinery. Vehicle to Grid allows energy to be sent to the national grid via a bi-directional charger.
Pricing for the new Master E-Tech has not yet been announced, but we expect it to cost around £45,000 for the small battery model and more than £50,000 for the larger battery.
