If you’re looking for a long-term technology job in the financial industry, consider working at Morgan Stanley. Technology leaders tend to stay in the company for a while, but is their salary worth the promotion?
Using data from Levels.fyi, we looked at average compensation by seniority from analyst to executive director. We also looked into compensation for the 2024 intern class to see what you’ll be paid if you participate at the ground level.
How much do you make as a software engineer at Morgan Stanley?
Globally, Morgan Stanley’s compensation appears to have started slowly and increased very quickly. The global average salary for analysts on Morgan Stanley’s technology team is $77,500, lower than Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan but higher than Citi. Morgan Stanley’s pay doesn’t increase much at the associate level, but it nearly doubles to $177,800 for vice president.
Similar to JPMorgan, engineering managers at Morgan Stanley seem to be treated better when it comes to pay. It appears that bank-level, director-level engineering managers earn significantly more than standard software engineers.
How much does Morgan Stanley pay its technical interns?
Global numbers are hard to find, but New York State’s Payroll Transparency Act provides an idea of what salaries are likely to be at a bank’s headquarters.
The highest salary for Morgan Stanley’s 2,024 internships for quantitative and technology analysts last year was $110,000, or about $52.88 an hour. During the 10-week internship program, you’ll earn a total of $21,200. But some technical interns at Morgan Stanley earned as little as $13,500.

Which engineers does Morgan Stanley pay the most?
In New York, Morgan Stanley pays engineers an average of $192,000.
It’s also highly competitive in London, paying higher salaries than Goldman Sachs or Citi. Singapore, on the other hand, appears to be one of the weakest countries in terms of relative salaries.
