We are pleased to welcome the following people to this first edition: Sinead El Shibai, Senior Vice President Marketing, Dubai Duty Free.
my day starts with…
The early morning alarm goes off at 5:45 a.m. on workdays. dubai duty free shop (DDF) starts at 7am. It took me a while to get used to being at a desk so quickly, but now, 23 years later, I’m pretty used to it.
At work, I am in charge of…
As Senior Vice President of Marketing at DDF, my role is very diverse, in addition to working with our internal marketing team on all matters related to corporate communications. Of course, digital marketing has also become an important part of our marketing strategy over the last few years and we have continued to learn about it, whether through social media or by targeting key demographics.
In addition to all this, we always have a broader mandate to promote DDF and Dubai to a global audience and are therefore involved in major events that promote our brand around the world. colm mcloughlinOur EVC and CEO is a born marketer and recognized the value of sports sponsorship from DDF’s early days. Sports sponsorship started with local sporting events and has grown to include international events such as karate, snooker, horse racing and tennis. The most recent agreement was signed on March 2nd.
Therefore, marketing is part of Dubai Duty Free’s DNA.
How I got into travel retail…
I was previously the Head of PR at FP7 Dubai, one of the largest advertising agencies in the Middle East. DDF is one of our clients and in the late 1980s he was responsible for his PR and marketing for the DDF Snooker Classic, and in 1993 he was responsible for the DDF Tennis Championships and his marketing team at the time. We cooperated with Anita Mehra, bharat god hindi and salah talaq. I always knew that I wanted to work for DDF once I decided to work in-house, as I loved working for Corum because they enjoyed their work and I knew them socially.
The opportunity presented itself in 2000 and I joined as marketing manager in October of that year and was delighted when Salah became head of marketing. By that time Anita was heading up the marketing department at Dubai Airport and Bharat’s company, Brand Plus, is still involved in tennis and we all continued to collaborate in some way over the years. .
Having been deeply involved in the travel retail business for many years, meeting people in the industry has been one of the biggest highlights. This is because there are many famous people in this business, and their knowledge and passion for their work is extremely rich. An exciting industry.
My typical day is…
To be honest, there are very few “typical days”. For example, during Tennis, a world-class tournament hosted and hosted by DDF, we continue to work as usual, so we all go to the office at 7am and head to the tennis stadium around 1pm. , will remain as is. Various meetings will take place on site until the final game of the day at approximately 11pm. Meanwhile, we’re not just watching tennis. Ramesh SidambiOur COO is the Chairman of the DDFTC Organizing Committee and Salah has been the Tournament Director for 21 years. So we’re all very keen on tournaments and this is something Colm has always been very keen on. His DDF staff of approximately 200 people, including the marketing department, are directly involved in tennis operations. Jasmine Mikoiko who is the project manager, Elisa Yana Who is responsible for all hotel reservations? Andy Reyes and noel parialResponsible for the entire site setup anna kern Who will be responsible for certification and sponsorship? Bernard Aquino The person who handles all media and VIP tickets. In addition, Beth Olaso The IT department is responsible for the box office, and the broader IT department oversees all technical requirements across the tournament venue.
Outside of big events like tennis, a typical day includes working with the marketing team on media bookings and inquiries, event planning, digital strategy, and product launches. We interact with all departments, but more often with purchasing, human resources, and operations departments.
Working on such a diverse range of events provides great and valuable experience for the entire marketing team, which for me is a real plus for the job.
My most memorable career highlight is…
There were many highlights, but the most memorable one was the tennis match we organized on the helipad. burj al arab and roger federer and andre agassi. I was his PR consultant for his PR opening of the Burj Al Arab in December 1999 and always wanted to do something special with this wonderful facility. It took all systems in motion and a lot of coordination with Jumeirah Group, the helicopter crew and photographers when both players agreed to do a casual knockabout on the helipad in 2005. I found out about it when both players walked to the helipad in May. It will be a truly memorable shoot. ATP says the images and video were viewed “half the world” and all I know is it was great for Dubai and great for DDF and the players were having a lot of fun. That’s all.
Another highlight was at Newbury Racecourse in April 2012 when Colm, Salah and I presented Her Majesty the Queen with a Darley Arabian statue to commemorate her Diamond Jubilee. What made this moment so special was the obvious delight she took in carving one of her original thoroughbred horses, and her knowledge of horse racing and pedigree is amazing, and the carving is now in the palace. We heard that it was exhibited at.
What I enjoy most about my job is…
I have enjoyed a friendship for 40 yearsth During the preparations for the anniversary, the senior management team was interviewed several times by a number of media outlets, and what stood out most to those we interviewed was how much we all appreciate each other as colleagues. , how they respected each other and how they cared about their staff team and their team. How much we enjoy our work. This undoubtedly stems from the company culture that Corum has built and which remains strong 40 years later.
At the end of the day, relax by:
As a movie buff, I’m really looking forward to movie night and a glass or two of “Angel Whispers.”
I never travel without this…
I’ve been trying to “travel light,” but unfortunately I’ve never mastered the art.So, in addition to my heavy suitcase, I always carry my phone (of course), iPad, pashmina, and Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Perfect for staying hydrated on long-haul flights.
