Canary Wharf Group (CWG) has partnered with Tech Takeback, a not-for-profit organization that provides safe and sustainable solutions to unwanted electrical products, to open the first technology donation bank in Canary Wharf. The pop-up allows people to donate unwanted laptops, mobile phones and tablets that may be gathering dust and give them a second life within the local community of Tower Hamlets.
The pop-up will be located at Jubilee Place Mall and will be open to the public for three days from Tuesday 6th to Thursday 8th February. All donated technology will be data erased to ensure no usable technology is thrown away before being distributed to local community partners who may suffer from digital exclusion in the Tower Hamlets area.Currently over 60%[1] Waste electrical and electronic equipment that is disposed of at household waste recycling centers may be suitable for reuse after simple repairs, and by donating it to Tech Takeback you can ensure that your electrical equipment is put to the best possible use. It will be.
The initiative aims to help residents, workers and visitors get organized this new year, while also helping to protect the planet by extending the life of recycled items that would otherwise go to landfill. Most importantly, the scheme will help rehome old or unused technology by providing it to people who would not normally have access to this type of product. This is the latest example of CWG’s commitment to creating positive change through social purpose.
To encourage people to donate old technology to good causes, retailers such as Badiani and Pure hand out vouchers to donors. This voucher is available daily on a first-come, first-served basis. After donating your old technology as your good deed for the day, there are plenty of activities to enjoy throughout the pier. From adults-only amusement park fair games, to competitive games of padel at the new Padium Center, or exploring his 16.5 acres of parks and green space at Canary Wharf, plus his 70+ restaurants, bars and cafes. There’s plenty to enjoy while exploring the Wharf.
The Pop-Up Technology Donation Back will run from Tuesday, February 6th to Thursday, February 8th and will be open to the public from 10am to 6pm each day.
