Taylor Swift is fighting back after a blatantly fake photo of herself was posted online, but the gloves are completely off.
The American superstar is currently at war with social media bosses after a truly gruesome AI-generated image of her in an intimate position was shared on social media.
One of the deepfake photos was viewed 47 million times on X/Twitter before it was removed.
To put this into context, it’s like the entire Spanish nation is looking at a completely fake, but still absolutely humiliating photo of you.
If it were me, I’d want to crawl into a hole. But fortunately, Taylor has more courage and more resources to stop its spread.
So far, she has given X (which has been accused of not doing enough to police content since billionaire Elon Musk took over the company) the ability for people to search for her name. I was successful in getting it removed.
But the reach of the internet is so vast that morbid shots are still popping up on other social media apps, including Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook.
Her fight has gone global, with US President Joe Biden’s press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre calling on social media chiefs to crack down on the spread of these types of images.
Sophie Campbell-Adams, a director at leading criminal defense law firm Britton & Time, said it was not just Taylor who was at risk, but all celebrities.
“The malicious use of deepfakes poses a serious threat,” she said. That’s too right.
“I hope that whatever action Taylor takes to end this will bring about major change, not just in the music industry, but in society as a whole.
Online bullying is rampant in schools, but how long will it be before this technology becomes so easy to use that a cheeky teenager with an ax to grind can use it to torment everyone he knows?
Last night, X’s chief executive Joe Benarroch said the blocking of Taylor’s name searches was a “temporary measure” to prioritize safety.
The site said Friday that posting non-consensual nudity is “strictly prohibited” and added: “We have a zero-tolerance policy against such content.
“Our team has removed all identified images and is taking appropriate action against the accounts responsible.”
Taylor isn’t just fighting for the rich and famous here, she’s fighting for all of us.
and I’ll be at the front of the line cheers when she won.
