Bethesda Game Studios is adding the latest version of AMD’s supersampling technology FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) to Starfield this month.
in Post to Bethesda Game Studios X/Twitter official account, Bethesda has revealed that FSR 3 will be added to Starfield through the Steam Beta next week. FSR 3’s additions will be rolled out to all PC players later this month “in advance of the next scheduled update,” Bethesda added.
FSR 3 is the third generation of AMD’s answer to Nvidia’s supersampling technology DLSS, which adds frame generation technology to supported games. However, unlike DLSS, which only works with RTX GPUs, AMD’s supersampling technology works with AMD, Nvidia, and Intel graphics cards.
Starfield previously supported FSR 2 when the game first launched last year, but PC players who wanted FSR 3 had to add it unofficially via a mod. Most notably, the DLSSG-to-FSR3 mod allows gamers to replace their Nvidia’s DLSS Frame Generation (DLSSG) with his FSR 3 to provide higher frame rates in certain games. That’s what happened.
Starfield’s support for FSR 3 makes it part of a growing list of games that support the latest version of AMD’s supersampling technology. Other games that support FSR 3 include Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name.
As Bethesda previously stated, another Starfield update is planned for this month. Last December, in a Reddit post, Bethesda wording suggested that a story expansion, Shattered Space, would be released in February.
In our review of Starfield, we said: “There are many forces at work in Starfield, but at the end of the day, the appeal of its expansive role-playing quests and admirable combat make its pull difficult to resist.”
