Following a successful trial across 35 locations, Lidl GB has announced a major transformation affecting all its stores to revamp the way prices are displayed. It is estimated that this move will save more than 206 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year through paper and packaging reduction, and will also significantly minimize ink usage.
Since starting the trial across 35 stores in September 2022, more than two-thirds of shoppers surveyed said they didn’t notice the change to electronic shelf labels, and the benefits of switching to paper savings are even greater. Enhanced. This technology will reduce the time colleagues previously spent manually reviewing and updating paper price tags, allowing them to focus on what matters most, like serving customers and restocking shelves. .
Isaac Ekpenyong, Sales Organization Director at Lidl GB, commented: No matter how big or small, changes to the way we operate can improve the overall experience of our customers when they shop with us.
“In this particular case, we’re empowering our colleagues by giving them more time to focus on tasks that directly benefit our customers. But the move to electronic shelf labels is much more than that. It’s another step we’re taking to reduce costs and reduce our impact on the environment by reducing paper and ink consumption. ”
The discounter will phase in ESL in specific sections of each discounter’s stores in the coming months, with full implementation expected to be completed by the end of this year.
