The Net Zero Technology Center (NZTC) has launched a call to find innovative solutions to improve the efficiency of electrolyzers.
Electrolysers play a key role in the sustainable production of hydrogen, using electricity to separate hydrogen and oxygen molecules in water without emitting carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
Improving the efficiency of hydrogen production is critical to the success of strategically located energy hubs that integrate various energy vectors to meet the country’s electricity needs and drive energy exports, according to NZTC.
Technology developers can apply for funding to accelerate the development of electrolyzer technology towards pilot or prototype level.
Up to £500,000 of funding is available, split between three to five technologies.
NZTC Program Manager Darren Gee said: “Our latest call, focused on innovative electrolyzer technology, supports the development and feasibility of sustainable hydrogen production and energy hubs.
“Our fundraising competitions always bring to the fore the dynamic range of technologies that are driving progress towards global energy goals.”
Gillian Martin, Minister for Energy, Just Transition and Fair Work, said: “The Scottish Government is funding this important research to reduce the cost of hydrogen production through the Energy Transition Fund. “This will make it more attractive to merchants and help secure new markets.” our abundant renewable energy resources;
“We support innovative green technologies that foster a just transition, build sustainable economies and help achieve net zero.”
The funding competition was launched as part of the Energy Hub project, one of seven projects within the ETF-funded Net Zero Technology Transition Programme.
The application deadline is April 14th.
