If you’ve had a job interview recently, you’ve probably done a double take.
The interviewer will come out of nowhere and ask you random, weird questions that seemingly have nothing to do with how you would perform the position being discussed.
According to an article on LinkedIn, below are some examples of such questions.
-
If you were a sandwich, what would it be and why?
-
If aliens landed in front of you and offered you a position on their planet in exchange for everything you wanted, what would you want?
-
What’s in your refrigerator right now?
-
Why are manhole covers round?
-
If you were a tree (or animal), what kind of tree (or animal) would you be?
-
If you had a salad, what kind of dressing would you put on it?
Questions like this can be puzzling, but there’s a reason employers ask them.
Among other things, employers are looking to glean from your answers:
-
personality. Specific questions are aimed at finding out what your personality traits are and whether they are a good fit for the organization.
-
Creativity. Your answers to the questions may highlight how creative you are and how that translates into your work situation.
-
the goal. Strange questions may lead to ways to fully express your career goals and ambitions.
-
Problem solving ability. Clearly, employers feel that coming up with good solutions to strange questions mirrors how they solve equally strange problems.
-
responsibility. Sure, it may seem strange how organizing your refrigerator can lead to success in the real world, but that and other questions may be how employers find out from their perspective.
There are several other reasons, but for now I would like to hear your opinions. What’s the strangest question you’ve been asked in a job interview? If you have an upcoming interview, please let us know below. This may help you ace the interview and get the job you want.
