Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday agreed to interview U.S. TV host Tucker Carlson because his approach differs from the one-sided coverage of many traditional Western news outlets, the Kremlin said.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Western media no longer tried to appear impartial in their coverage of Russia and there was no longer any desire to communicate directly with such outlets.
“When it comes to Western countries, the major network media, television stations, (and) major newspapers cannot even boast that they at least try to appear impartial in their reporting,” Peskov said.
“These are all media outlets that take an exceptionally one-sided position. Of course, there is no desire to communicate with such media; they have little meaning and are unlikely to be useful.”
When asked directly why President Putin agreed to interview Karlsson, Peskov said his position was in contrast to many Western media outlets.
“His position is different from others. It’s not pro-Russian, it’s not pro-Ukrainian. It’s pro-American, but at least in contrast to the traditional Anglo-Saxon media position,” Peskov said. Ta. .
Russia’s Tass news agency cited a report in the Wall Street Journal as saying the interview is likely to be aired on Thursday.
