christian symphonic metal band Tierra Basia (meaning “empty earth”) is ready rumble with their debut album rumble, on sale today. Their music is their message and they are excited to share that message with the world.
“We’ve received a lot of support from new fans who believe in us and love what we do,” says guitarist, songwriter, and occasional drummer Matthew Murias. “We also found that there are a lot of Christians who love symphonic metal and would love to see a message of faith in symphonic metal music, but that was hard to find. So, new fans of Tierra Vacía I’m really looking forward to everyone hearing the rest of the album.” Still, Murias says he doesn’t want to limit the band’s audience. “We don’t really want our music to be limited to just the Christian market. We want all types of people to hear it, and we want our music to resonate with people from all walks of life.” I hope so.”
Murias essentially wrote the album first and assembled a band to perform it, with many of the lyrics derived from a single source. “My lyrics are almost always based on Bible verses that inspire me,” says Murias. “Current events as seen through my worldview inspire some to believe that God created humanity, loves us, and desires a relationship with us.”
“For example, our song ‘Laodicea’ is based on Revelation 3,” explains vocalist and flautist Amber Eileen. “There the church of Laodicea is accused of being lukewarm in its faith. They are told that they must choose between hot and cold, or in other words, between good and evil.”
The band was assembled for this album to perform Murias’ lyrics, but Irene and Murias will now team up on lyric work. “The songs you will hear on this album were written by Matthew Murias before the band was formed, but we are now working together to create more music,” Eileen explains. . “Matthew and I are the main lyricists, I create the melodies and flute parts, and Matthew and Andrew work together to create cool riffs for the guitars and drums.”
“We all have different strengths that we bring to the table when writing new songs,” explains guitarist Andrew Yarbrough. “Amber, our singer, has a natural ear for melody, and Matthew and I have a chemistry of creating guitar riffs and designing stories with music. It starts with someone presenting an idea they’ve been working on recently, and then we form some ideas around that.”
Today, the new album sees the light of day for the first time, and the band members can’t contain their excitement at the culmination of over a year of work on these songs.
“I can’t wait to share this music with you,” says Eileen. “We’ve been waiting for over a year. There are so many layers of great music in these songs. Every time you listen, you’ll hear something you never noticed before.”
