After parting ways with offensive coordinator Brian Johnson on Tuesday, the Philadelphia Eagles have reportedly begun the process of finding his replacement.
According to ESPN Adam SchefterHouston Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson has finished interviewing with the Eagles ahead of Wednesday's OC opener.
Johnson, a former quarterback who starred at Texas A&M and joined the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2011, is still young in his coaching career with only one year of experience as a QB coach. However, his work with the Texans this season appears to be enough for him to be considered for the OC role. I received an interview request From the Cleveland Browns and New Orleans Saints regarding their respective availability.
Johnson helped lead the development of Houston rookie sensation CJ Stroud. He is widely considered the favorite to win NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year after his impressive performance this season. The 2023 No. 2 overall pick played in 15 games and threw for 4,108 yards and 23 touchdowns with just five interceptions.
Stroud led the Texans to a 10-7 record, their first win and their first playoff berth since 2020. Houston defeated the Cleveland Browns in the AFC Wild Card Round, but lost to the Baltimore Ravens in last Saturday's divisional round matchup.
The Eagles released both coordinator positions this week after releasing Johnson and parting ways with defensive coordinator Sean Desai and defensive playcaller Matt Patricia.
Philadelphia is looking to bounce back from a disappointing end to the season in which the team lost five of its last six games and was eliminated in the NFC Wild Card Round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with head coach Nick Sirianni's job in jeopardy. It seems so. Assembling the right coaching staff under Sirianni will be critical if the Eagles want to re-establish themselves as NFC contenders in 2024.
