How did you become a judge for the People in Retail Awards?
I decided to join because I love the idea of hearing more about what other brands and companies are working on, staying relevant, and being inspired by amazing people and companies.
What role do rewards and recognition play in the retail industry and why do you think they are important?
We highlight companies that recognize talented individuals, enable them to thrive, and build great brands as a result. I have a passion for people, both employees and customers. Our employees are our greatest asset. Without them, your company would not exist, and through them your company will either succeed or fail.
Being recognized builds confidence. Because true confidence comes from within when your efforts, skills, and accomplishments are recognized, and your abilities are recognized.
We also believe this is a great platform to recognize trends and themes that are important and highly relevant in today’s workplace, such as employee benefits. The more awareness there is, the more companies will follow.
Can you share an experience from your career that illustrates the importance of recognizing excellence in your industry?
Throughout my nine years at Rituals, I have received numerous letters from customers about in-store experiences that have changed their lives. We quickly realized that having our employees provide great service was actually about making connections, not just selling a great product. Connections build friendships, and friendships build community.
I am always so humbled and inspired when leaders demonstrate compassionate leadership and when teams come together to support each other through extremely difficult circumstances. At times like this, I feel very proud.
From your perspective, how essential are people to the success of a business and why do you think it is important to focus on the individual?
A “company” is defined as a group of people, so a company cannot be run without people. Organizations are team sports and need to attract talented people who come together and collectively produce great work.
Focusing on the individual is equally important, as we need to invest in our people. We need to give them the tools to grow and thrive. You need to give continuous feedback. We need to coach them to become better leaders.
What criteria or qualities in particular do you look for when evaluating nominations for the People in Retail Award?
People: I look for individuals who demonstrate resilience, grit, passion for what they do, demonstrate consistency, and are good team players. From a skill set perspective, you will need excellent communication skills, customer focus, excellent product knowledge, adaptability, and be able to demonstrate a good work ethic with a commitment to delivering results and exceeding expectations. .
Companies: I look for companies that have a clear purpose and vision, a great culture that values their employees, a clear mission, a focus on innovation and adaptability, and effective communication and collaboration. Masu. It is also important that we have sustainable business practices that aim to balance profits with social and environmental considerations.
Ultimately, it’s a combination of vision, operational excellence, and a true dedication to serving our employees and customers.
