The NFL Scouting Combine is in full swing in Indianapolis. Almost every prospect is asked which team they had an official interview with. However, here’s the secret: it doesn’t matter.
During the All-Star circuit, combine, and pro day cycle, prospects will meet with virtually every NFL team at some point. At this stage of the scouting process, monitoring which players are being talked to is not worth the effort.
If you want a hint as to which players the Green Bay Packers are interested in, you’ll have to wait until the team brings the players in for a pre-draft facility visit. Historically, this has been a better valuation to indicate a team has legitimate interest in a potential draft pick.
Last year, the team acquired Carl Brooks, Dontaevion Wicks, Lou Nichols III, Ben Sims, Kadeem Telfort, Sean Clifford, and Camren McDonald, all of whom were either drafted by the Packers or traded at a later date. He is a player who has signed a contract with the team. Back in 2022, Green Bay’s list of draft picks included Devonte Wyatt, Christian Watson, Romeo Dubs, Tarik Carpenter, Rasheed Walker, and Samori Toure.
So don’t say too much about who general manager Brian Gutekunst and his staff will be spending time with in Indianapolis this week. Eventually, you’ll end up talking to all the prospects in this class. What really matters is who ends up making the trip to Green Bay and when they can actually talk to the coaching staff for the first time in the process. Don’t forget, Matt LaFleur and his guys are back at home working on replenishing the coaching staff and overhauling the 2023 film.
The Packers will have a little more money in 2024 thanks to incentives that players didn’t get in 2023.
Easing the playing time of Rasheed Walker and Sean Ryan from last season will help the 2024 version of the team. The question now is whether they have enough depth to survive a 17-game season (and hopefully the postseason).
Given the lack of star prospects at the safety, running back, and linebacker positions in this draft, the easiest first-round pick for the Packers is an offensive lineman. A lot is expected to happen in the coming months.
We’ve already touched on this topic a bit, but the Packers are working on running backs Jonathan Brooks (Texas) and Audric Estim (Notre Dame), as well as two top safeties.
Welcome to the era of NFL truth. Not only do these up-and-comers not believe in the universe, but several have already declared themselves believers in “Birds Are Not Real.”
