Following last night’s win over Fulham, BBC Radio Newcastle’s Matthew Raisbeck revealed that Kieran Trippier insisted on an interview with a popular commentator to send a message about his future at the club.
He insisted he is “100% committed” to the club now and forever, and that all talk of a potential move to Bayern Munich is “over”.
The 33-year-old said, “There’s no place I’d rather be.” He admitted it was an honor to receive interest from a Bundesliga powerhouse at his age, but he is ready to “give everything” for Newcastle. He clearly wants to give something back to the club after we brought him back to England on his first major contract under the new owners.
The exchange with Raisbeck after the match is as follows.
Matthew Raisbeck – “Kieran, nice to meet you, nice to talk to you. First of all, you asked to do an interview. What do you want to say?”
Kieran Trippier – “There’s been a lot of speculation about me lately, but as always, I’m here to give it my all. I am 100% committed, as I have been since I first signed. There’s no place I’d rather be.
Matthew Raisbeck – “How difficult was it last week with the interest from Bayern Munich? You were quiet, but things seem to have settled down?
Kieran Trippier – “Yes, it’s finished. I was quiet, but I didn’t throw toys or anything from the stroller. As I have always said, I am happy here and want to give everything for the club.”
Matthew Raisbeck – “Does something like this ever cause anxiety for players?”
“Are you anxious? No, because I’m a professional. I’m experienced and I try to block out all the noise.
“I’m old enough and have been around a lot. That’s all you can do at my age. [Bayern’s interest] As a compliment. I want to be here now and give everything for Newcastle.
“We want to make history here and create our own journey. We want to win trophies, but tonight was another big step.”
