Star Trek: Picard It won a major award at the Saturn Awards last Sunday. At the event, TrekMovie had the opportunity to speak with showrunner Terry Matalas about the series’ final season and get an update on a potential Star Trek: Legacy sequel.
Just as the TNG crew was honored tonight, Gene Roddenberry received the Saturn Lifetime Achievement Award in 1980.and Picard Also selected as the best series [which it won along with 3 acting awards]. This is a bit of a full circle. What was it about Gene’s legacy that you were trying to convey in this piece? Picard And did you feel like you were stuck in the so-called “Roddenberry box” when it came to personality conflicts?
No, it wasn’t. I had never really seen it that way. I think what Gene did was start a family. In the 1960s, he built a family of diverse and brilliant minds, which grew even more as he starred in feature films, becoming a family that truly sacrificed for each other. So I think what we really wanted to do here was a season of family togetherness. next generation House Titan, House Picard. And to me, the real Star Trek is its characters.
Season 3 spawned many memes, including the show’s “No” moment. When you’re putting together a show, do you ever think about how this or that will turn into a memorable moment?
No, you have two hours to give the scene some serious consideration, and you’re too busy worrying if this is going to work. you hope. Sometimes when it cuts together I think, “I think this character is going to pop,” or “I think this moment is going to be great,” but I don’t really know.
What are some things that you didn’t expect or perhaps didn’t think would pop?
Something I never thought of? We ran a running gag about Chateau Piccard not being the best wine. It’s not the most delicious. I didn’t think anyone would really get it, but people really, really got it.

Look, anything is possible. We’ll never think, “Oh, we’re not going to make a movie.” For me, as long as I need this crew, I need this cast, and I can do that, I’m going to come up with something. With so many stories to tell, a series is clearly ideal. And his 25th century in Star Trek is generally very rich.
People see the name “Legacy” and think it’s all about the stars of Legacy. But will it actually be about new cast and characters? Will every episode feature a once-famous Next Generation/Voyager/DS9 guest star?
