Kieran Culkin showed off the sarcastic attitude he and his “Succession” character are known for at the SAG Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday.
Red carpet interviewer Elaine Welteroth claimed that Culkin told her to “save” the compliment until the cameras were rolling. Culkin disputed this.
“I said, ‘Shut up.’ Actually, that’s what I said, not ‘Save me,'” he said jokingly. “Do I have to hold a microphone? I don’t like doing this. So, are you going to say something nice to me? I don’t know what to do. And there’s a screen with my face on it, Should I see it?”
Culkin previously admitted that some of the trappings of fame can make him uncomfortable.
He tried to distract Welteroth by coming out that she was barefoot during the interview. After Ms. Welteroth stated that one of her shoes “killed” her, she attempted to redirect her by stating, “This is not about me.” But Culkin felt different.
“But that’s about you, isn’t it?” he said. “So this is like your show, and you only wear one shoe on the show.”
Welteroth changed his tune and professed to admire Culkin as an actor. When she suggested taking her dynamic, playful performance on a “road trip,” Culkin simply replied, “I’m busy, so I’ll pass.”
The actor has been nominated twice at tonight’s ceremony for Best Male Actor in a Drama Series and Best Ensemble Actor in a Drama Series for his role in Succession. Three of her co-stars, Brian Cox, Matthew Macfadyen, and Sarah Snook, also received acting nominations.

When asked who he thought would win the award tonight, Culkin had no answer for Welteroth.
“I don’t understand, me? I don’t understand,” he told her. “Brian? Anyone. It doesn’t matter who wins. Someone has to win, right?”
When Welteroth asked about the ring on his finger, Culkin joked that the ring he bought with his daughter was just “shit.”
While the father-of-two appeared to be trying to get to the bottom of the real answer, Welteroth joked that he was finally seeing the “softer side of Kieran Culkin”. So Culkin returned to his regular show.
“Oh, shut up, what did I just say! Save it,” he said and walked away. “Stupid Mike”
