One job hunter confessed that what was supposed to be a Zoom interview lasted for 30 minutes after the people who were supposed to interview him didn’t show up. In an increasingly frustrating job market for some, it appears this was not an unusual experience.
TikTok creator Sragvi (@sragvipattanaik) posted a video on the platform on February 25th that has garnered over 892,000 views and 66,000 likes, proving that the content is highly relatable. I got a lot of comments indicating that.
This short video conveys its content through an on-screen caption that reads, “I’m poor and desperate so I stay on a no-show interview call for 30 minutes.” This video uses songs from the Nintendo Wii Mii Channel to emphasize the feeling of waiting. Slugvi shows herself waiting, then a picture of herself in a Zoom room, waiting in vain for the interview to begin, is shown on the screen of her MacBook.
Judging by the commenters who have commented, this turns out to be a distressingly familiar experience.
“I waited 30 minutes, emailed them, and got a rejection,” said one person.
Another person reported, “I waited about 45 minutes, and about 20 minutes later I sent an email and it completely ghosted me.” No apology or anything. ”

“I went to the interview and the manager was 2 and a half hours late so I waited and she didn’t give me the job,” said another.
Another person shared, “The job field was so ridiculous that I went for an online interview and got rejected. A week later, I went to a recruiting event at the same company and was hired on the spot.”
forbeswrites in their article on the developing job market in 2024: “Over the past few years, the labor market participation rate of prime-age workers between the ages of 25 and 54 has experienced one of the largest jumps in the past 20 years, with rising immigration levels post-pandemic and , boosted by the return of workers who were previously put out of work.
It added: “Forecasts for 2024 show continued growth in the youth workforce if the labor market remains tight and immigration remains high,” adding that increased use of AI will also impact the job market. He pointed out that there is a possibility.
But as at least one commenter pointed out, a competitive job market may be freezing out young workers who haven’t had the time or opportunity to gain experience. The person joked, “Does he need 10 years of experience to join a Zoom call?”
