Jamie Laing gushed about his recent career moves when he appeared on Sunday, Feb. 18’s episode of Sunday Brunch. The 35-year-old married his wife, fellow Made in Chelsea star Sophie Habou, on the show in a lavish ceremony in Marbella last year.
While speaking to presenters Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer, he was awkwardly asked about “sacking Jordan North” from the BBC Radio 1 show. This comes after Jordan, 34, confirmed he was leaving the network for the first time in 10 years, but many fans thought it was sudden.
Following this news, it has been reported that Jordan will be moving to Capital FM, where he is believed to be replacing Roman Kemp, who has been on the Capital Breakfast Show for seven years.
Jamie will take over Jordan’s role and appear on the Drivetime show alongside current co-host Vic Hope. During their talk at Sunday Brunch, Tim asked Jamie, saying, “You fired Jordan North to get his job.”
While Sophie laughed at the comment, Jamie seemed a little uncomfortable and changed the subject to focus solely on his new role. He replied: “So Drivetime on Radio 1 is about to start. It’s very exciting. I feel very lucky. That’s it… Yes. It’s really exciting. I’m really looking forward to it. I did it with Matt Edmondson. It was amazing. However, they were very kind and said, “Would you like to try this?” And I said, ‘That’s great.’ ”
Jamie was keen to praise Jordan during the chat, saying he felt “so lucky” and “so blessed” to have been given such an honour. He added: “Jordan has a big job ahead of him and I hope he does a good job.”
On Saturday, February 17, Jordan took to Instagram to share the news of his departure, along with a slew of photos from the past 10 years at Radio 1.
The I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! graduates began by saying they wanted to “take this opportunity” to thank all of their “amazing colleagues” and “talented producers,” many of whom they now have for life. He said he considers him a friend. He added, “To all the wonderful presenters, I would like to personally thank you all. It was so much fun working with you all!”
“A big shout out to Katie Thistleton, Greg James, Ariel Free, Ricky, Melvin & Charlie, Dean & Vicky, Clara Amfo, Matt & Molly, Scott Mills, Grimmie and all the other amazing guys and of course my partner in crime. I give you my love” Vic Hope… I miss being on air with you every day.
“Most importantly, a huge thank you to all of our amazing listeners who have been so generous and always made me feel welcome. Your kind words and messages have been so sweet. Thank you so much.”
