Defender Sam Lovell said after the final whistle on Saturday.
Evaluating the match against Portsmouth, Sam said: Probably the best one I’ve played in a while.
“The manager told us this week that he wanted to take more risks at the back and pass out a little more because our game plan so far wasn’t working.
“I thought we did well. We conceded a few goals playing from the back, which is what happens, but overall our patterns were good and we trusted each other with the ball.
“We have 15 games left, so every game is a battle.
“We knew it would happen [against Portsmouth] And I think we rose to the challenge well. ”
Neither team was able to break the deadlock for the first 45 minutes.
Lovell said there was one clear message from the coach during this interval. “Just keep going and do the same performance as the first half.
“There’s no point in doing something nice for 45 minutes.”
Continuing his analysis of the second half, the defender added:: “I think they put a little bit of pressure on us at the beginning of the second half.
“They started the first half well. They’re a good team and the quality of their passing and finishing was there, but I think it really takes a little bit of smarts and experience to stop them.”
Paddy Lane took the lead in the 62nd minute, but despite being at a disadvantage Carlisle never gave up.
“I think the fans could see that we gave it our all, and they gave us a standing ovation at the end.
“The fans were great today too, coming behind us and making some noise.
“Our efforts have been ongoing, and we will continue to do so.”
On Tuesday night we travel to Burton Albion looking to get back to winning ways in Sky Bet League One.
“I can go back in a few days and play like I always have.” [today]” said Lovell.
“The manager said at the end that if we played like we did today against Burton on Tuesday and against Cambridge on Saturday, we would have a good chance of winning.”
