John Coleman believes Wrexham’s 2-0 defeat in November will still be fresh in their minds as Accrington Stanley visit the Racecourse Ground for their first league game since 2008.
Goals from Tommy Lee and Rosea Longello ended Wrexham’s 11-game unbeaten run as they aim for promotion at the Wham Stadium at the end of 2023.
Phil Parkinson’s side have remained within the promotion ranks since then and are currently fourth in the league, while 15th-placed Stanley are looking to bounce back and move up the table after two defeats.
With Hollywood ownership and an influx of money, attendance numbers have increased from 3,657 the last time Stanley went to Wrexham 16 years ago (a 3-1 win with a goal from current player Shaun Walley) and now average The number has increased to 10,000.
“You have this opportunity and you’re playing a football team, and a lot of things were said after our game, but I thought they were in really good shape,” Coleman said.
“There are feel-good factors around Wrexham and it’s good to see that. You want to see the club flourish. I don’t envy that.
“They have money flowing in, they use it wisely and they have great players.
“They’ve had incredible success and we played them in that feel-good factor and beat them.
“I think they felt slighted that they had lost to ‘little Accrington Stanley’.
“But we have proven over the last 12 to 15 years that we are no longer ‘Little Accrington’.
“We may be living within our means in terms of monetary value and what we can afford to pay, but we are rich in spirit and have reiterated over and over again that we are not a small club. I’ve proven it.
“It wouldn’t be a shock if we did well and beat a so-called bigger team. The fact that we beat them will still stay with their fans in my opinion and their players will want to win for that.”
Stanley’s injury list remains in double figures and they rely on their young players, with Leslie Adekoya and Enjola Popoola coming off the bench in Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat to Walsall. A packed racetrack would make for a lively atmosphere for them.
Coleman continued: “We’ve got to talk to the players and remind them of their roles and responsibilities on the pitch. They’ve shown they can cope with things and we hope they can cope against Wrexham on Saturday.” Told.
Although the Reds have lost their last two games, they have remained close and Coleman is pleased with the performance of his young side.
“Our team has done wonders for being able to play this long,” he said.
“The fact that we haven’t lost by two goals in a while and still had a positive goal difference in late February is a testament to how hard the players have worked to protect our goal. It shows whether
“We want to score more goals, but it’s not all doom and gloom and we have to take it at face value. The players have been training very hard and have exceeded my expectations. They have outperformed all of us and I have high expectations for them all.”
“I have nothing but hats off to them for their efforts in dealing with so many personnel changes.
“We want to win more for the fans, for ourselves and for the team, and we’ll try to get more wins between now and the end of the season.”
Coleman wants Holly and Alex Henderson back, while Ben Woods has been tested with the Reds pending results. Brad Hills missed the third game of his four-game suspension.
