With the Sky Blues forced to settle for a replay at Hillsborough, City manager Mark Robins gave his assessment of the progress of the match.
Victor Torp scored on his debut and it seemed like it would be enough until Jaydee Gassama equalized late on.
Robins reflected on the game and explained the six changes he made to the squad, as well as Victor Tope's debut against Sheffield on Wednesday.
Looking back at the match…
“If you can't win, don't lose. We'll get them back to our place and start right away.
“I thought the match was terrible. The pitch was difficult, but they make it difficult with the way they set up.
“We took the lead with an unbelievable attack and a great goal. We could have taken advantage of other chances and Ellis had an outstanding chance in the second half so if we can convert that we can keep winning. , I couldn't do that.
“They fought back and a player took a shot from the edge of the box that deflected and beat Ben, but then we could have gone down at the other end and taken the shot. , the opposition keeper made a good save to deny Jamie Allen.
“I thought some of our quality was there and that was the real story of this game.”
6 changes…
“There are many reasons, one of which is the fatigue factor.
“He needed a rest. He was completely shattered. He needed a rest because the intensity and frequency of the games were catching up to him. He can't keep doing that.
“Haji has just come back from injury and Callum O’Hare looks lame. He was playing on this pitch on Saturday and they look long legged so we will play on Tuesday. We wanted to give them time to recover because injuries come.
“We wanted to take Josh Eccles off, but we couldn't do that. I thought he did really well in the game, but he looked leggy.
“Thankfully we got through it without any injuries, the players were able to practice in a few minutes, a lot of the players are feeling better, we gave the others a little bit of a break and we're back on Tuesday. I will do it.”
Victor Tope's debut work…
“It was a tough game for him. It's a difficult pitch, but he's a good player, a good footballer and he's got that in his locker,” he said.
“Great goal, great debut. Welcome to Coventry.”
The reaction Casey Palmer received…
“He's playing soccer. We're in a game where we try hard and they come out to entertain people and that shouldn't happen.
“It was a disgrace, the reaction was a disgrace, people need to look at themselves, what are they doing, it was ridiculous, a complete joke.
“Casey is a football player and has a family. He just wants to enjoy playing football.”
