Mark Robins believes his “passivity” in the first half at The Hawthorns cost the team.
The Sky Blues lost against West Brom, with both hosts scoring in the first 45 minutes.
The Robins were substituted at half-time, bringing on Haji Wright, and the Sky Blues pulled one back in the second half.
After the final whistle, Robins reflected on his side’s performance.
Looking back at the match…
“We were too passive in the first half. We couldn’t get outs, we didn’t get consistent time on the ball and that ended up costing us.
We had three great chances to score in the first half. Ben had two shots on goal and they both went into the net, but I don’t think there was anything else.
It was a night where if we had been more aggressive in certain areas and had that aggressiveness in the second half, we could have gotten something out of the game and maybe even won it. ”
Growth towards the second half of the game…
“They made some changes in the second half and they had a very strong bench that could make a difference.
But they put them in and they weren’t as aggressive as we expected because we were still in the lead and trying to get goals back.
Casey was brought down for a penalty, but Haji scored a great goal. Ellis was in a good position and Torp was in a good position to score, but we didn’t work the goalie enough and couldn’t hit the target.
That was the bug that was exposed in the second period and first half. Because the chances we had were good chances and we didn’t take them cleanly enough. ”
As for the points conceded…
“The two goals we gave were poor.
Johnston put the ball through Milan’s legs and it was turned back to Josh Eccles and in fairness he took a nice shot and took the corner very well, but from our point of view it was poor. .
The second goal was nothing and the game was about to go to half time and they got a run from Diangana which we couldn’t respond to and we weren’t aggressive enough and we didn’t let them. I couldn’t get close to it. ”
Substitutions at the start of the game and at halftime…
“The way we started the team was wrong. Until we made some adjustments in the second half, we just couldn’t get out of the way or get a foothold in the game.
Haji came in for Callum, but it was tough for Callum. he hadn’t done anything wrong. But we just couldn’t put anything into the game.
We have really good, safe football players who are technically good and I felt they would give us the game we needed.
We needed to be able to handle the ball more and secure the ball, but we didn’t do that because we didn’t have enough of the ball to do that.
This change happened because of the injuries we sustained. ”
