Joel Latibaudiere gave an honest assessment of City’s performance in their 2-1 defeat to West Brom at the Hawthorns.
Joel again captained the team, but was unable to prevent City from an away defeat in the Championship match.
After the final whistle, Latibaudiere analyzed his team’s performance against the Baggies.
Reflection on the match…
“We were too passive in the first half. We struggled, but we still had chances to catch up.
We had a lot of shots in the first half that we could have stopped, but I think they only had two shots the entire game, and they both made their shots and that was it.
At the end of the day, some were successful and some weren’t, but we were too passive as a team in the first half to get close enough to them. ”
Too passive…
“I felt like we weren’t together as a team. We talked about it at halftime and when we came out, we were more aggressive.”
Milan jumped on the opposition full-back, Bobby moved and I covered the space. So were Jay and Binxy on the other side.
We didn’t know that in the first half, but our opponents knew where the spaces were. So we adjusted with the coaches at halftime and the second half was much better. ”
City’s chances during the match…
“Yeah, just having the belief and arrogance to believe in myself and go for the shot.
I think we’re lacking a little bit of that in the final third at the moment so we need to be confident. Only one of them is required.
The other day we scored five goals. It was a great five goals and we should have gone into this game with confidence and found the back of the net, but that wasn’t the case.
In the second half we made some adjustments and won the ball, with Casey winning a great penalty which Haji converted.
I definitely think I got more out of this than I did. ”
Playing with the three people behind me…
“It was just to cover width, they like to play very expensive and also because we had Callum and Casey playing very close together.
We thought the two of them playing as two 10s next to each other could cause a lot of problems around the box.
I just couldn’t catch the ball well. We were too passive and had too much respect for them to go after them. ”
The season is coming to an end…
“I think we’re in a situation right now with about 12 games left, we have a home game coming up so we need to go there and the only option is to win.
We all want to make the playoffs and we all want to stay in playoff contention. So we have a lot of teams playing against teams above us.
There’s another game on Tuesday. You have to scrub yourself and get back on your feet. ”
On serving as team captain…
“Yeah, it’s a real honour, the manager told me about it and I was over the moon, especially representing a club like Coventry.
Yeah, it’s really hard to lose and take on a little bit more as the leader of the team and I’m just working with it and trying to get through it, but I love it.
