Opposition politician Job Sihara said he was facing the threat of new arrests after being released from Chikurubi Maximum Prison, where he had been held in pre-trial detention for the past year and a half.
Sihara was locked up in June 2022 on charges of inciting the public to avenge the death of Moreblessing Ali, who was murdered in cold blood by Pius Jamba, an alleged member of the ruling party.
He was released on Tuesday after being sentenced to two years’ suspended prison term by Judge Tafadzwa Miti, who found him guilty of the same charges last week.
Sihara told NewZimbabwe.com from his residence that he was informed that state agents were monitoring him for entertaining journalists.
“I now face a new threat.
“I have been notified by the deep state to cease these interviews,” he said without revealing many details.
Mr Sihara has been arrested more than 60 times in the past decade, but has only one conviction he plans to appeal in the High Court.
In an interview Thursday, Cicala said he needed a break to consider his future path.
The former lawmaker said his law firm was closed after his arrest and his heart was bleeding.
“I don’t know where to start,” he said.
“Now is a time for reflection, as I still need to think about whether I need to pursue a career as a lawyer.”
