“I thought it was time to admit my side of what happened.”
This is what Ian Packer told BBC investigative reporter Sam Poling in his first interview in November 2018.
He approached Ms Pauling after she filmed a documentary about Scottish police.
Mr Packer was portrayed in the press as a “forgotten suspect” in the 2005 murder of Emma Caldwell.
Her body was discovered in remote woodland near Biggar, South Lanarkshire, five weeks after she was last seen alive in Glasgow city centre.
Packer said he wanted to clear his name and agreed to be interviewed twice on camera by Pauling for a documentary about Emma’s murder.
Although during these interviews he stated that he was “not a violent person”, Packer was later arrested and charged with the murder of Emma, who was working as a sex worker in Glasgow.
His trial began in January 2024. Sam Poulin was cited as a witness and a clip of an interview she conducted with him was shown to the jury.
Ian Packer was found guilty of the murder of Emma Caldwell.
