Dr. Kathy Stromile Golden reflects on how the strong women in her family shaped who she is today. She is the provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Mississippi Valley State University and the executive director of NCOBPS.
In this interview, Dr. Golden reflects on his upbringing, his introduction to political science, the challenges he has faced during his career, and shares advice for young scholars in the field. As part of an ongoing series exploring the contributions of scholars of color, APSA’s Diversity & Inclusion Division conducted a series of oral presentations during the 2023 National Conference of Black Political Scientists (NCOBPS) Annual Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia. A history interview was conducted.this Interview collection We contribute to the ongoing project of expanding the scholarship and contributions of Black, Indigenous, and people of color and examining the history of race and racism in the political science discipline. Furthermore, APSA-Pi Sigma African American Alpha Oral History Project (1988-1994) and is motivated by that MacLean Special Committee on Systemic Inequalities in Discipline (2022). Each interview will be premiered at the 2023 APSA Annual Meeting in Los Angeles, California and will be screened at the 2024 NCOBPS Annual Meeting.
