In an apparent U-turn, Lee Lowry was summoned by Downing Street to confront the Sky News presenter.
It was the first Conservative frontbencher to do so since Hugh Merriman’s car crash interview with Mr Burley last Tuesday.
The transport minister was ridiculed after saying that Radio 4’s satirical show “News Quiz” showed that the BBC was biased.
HuffPost UK yesterday revealed how ministers had been prevented from playing against Burley since Merriman’s nightmarish performance, in a highly unusual move.
To date, the last time a government representative appeared on Sky’s breakfast show was last Friday, on Mr Burley’s day off.
And yesterday, Health Secretary Victoria Atkins was interviewed by various TV and radio stations, but did not appear on Sky News.
A No10 source insists there is nothing unusual about the arrangement, telling HuffPost UK that morning broadcast interviews will alternate between daily and weekly interviews.
However, Kay Burley did not comment when asked directly whether ministers were effectively barred from being interviewed.
During a 10-minute cross-examination this morning, Mr Rowley referred to the cost of the BBC’s license fee.
Referring to Merriman’s interview, Burley said: You can do that if you want, but I wasn’t going to do that today. ”
And at the end of the interview, Mr Burley said to the Minister: “I’m on my best behavior today, so I might as well let you go.”
