A warm and gentle tone was present from the beginning. “Billy has a really dynamic voice, and she started singing in a high falsetto, but it was pretty quiet,” Finneas explains. “So I was just playing as quietly as possible to match her dynamic.” He used a practice pedal on an upright piano to muffle the sound. As a result, his instrumentation matched the tenderness of his sister’s vocals. “This is a song about how fragile humans are,” Phineas recalls. “We just tried to be sensitive and careful.”
Finneas is an Oscar winner for the title song No Time to Die, which he shared with his sister. Their collaboration “What Was I Made For?” has already won Golden Globe and Grammy Awards for Song of the Year and Song of the Year for Visual Media. He is a total of nine Grammy Award winners and was the youngest person ever to win the ceremony’s Producer of the Year award.
