Dress for Success Winnipeg program coordinator Eston Ferraton is in Portage la Prairie after receiving several inquiries for her services. She explains what it is all about and how we are helping women take advantage of all the possibilities our city offers for employment.
“I reached out to Portage and said, ‘Would you like to have an event?’ And we got together and thought this was a good idea,” Ferraton says. “It will be held on Red River College’s campus there, and everyone who registers will be given a 30-minute outfit appointment. After that, there will also be an option to add other services, i.e. resume assistance and cover letter assistance. “They’ll also be in touch with local hair salons to provide haircuts and styles. Then they’ll have someone there to take photos for everyone’s LinkedIn profile.”
Ferraton said her group provides the clothing portion of the service to clients, helping them dress for interviews. What’s important is preparing for an interview or preparing for your first few weeks on the job.
Eston Ferraton“It’s just to make sure that when they go into that career interview, they have the best confidence possible,” Ferraton explains. “Actually, that’s half the battle. If you don’t feel good, you won’t do well in the interview. You won’t be able to present your best self. I had interest from several Americans.” “Portage la Prairie. By the time I reached out to the Portage agency, one or two people had already come out. We realized this area might need this kind of help.”
She added that an event like this was held in Brandon last summer and felt it went very well, so it could be done here as well.
“It’s really important that women feel confident,” Ferraton continues. “The change I’m seeing in the women who come to the center here in Winnipeg is amazing, and I want to spread that as much as I can physically, because I don’t see women walking one way, walking two directions. Because it’s very encouraging to see him leave.”After a few hours, he was a completely different person.” ”
Ferraton says she doesn’t focus as much on men because they don’t have the same barriers as women. She does not know of this kind of male service, but she is looking for it.
“We focus on women and non-binary individuals. Some of us also do men’s clothing, but as far as I know, there is no organization for men in Manitoba like Dress for Success. . We focus on helping women achieve this financial independence. They achieve financial independence while helping their families.”
This event is scheduled for March 27th. She adds that she is excited to host the event and invites everyone to join.
“It’s going to be really, really fun. If there’s interest, we’d love to do it again. We’d love to come out as often as possible.”
