CNN host Brianna Keillor threatened to end an interview Thursday after Rep. Beth Van Duyne (R-Texas) repeatedly interrupted her interview.
Keillor interviewed Van Dine on CNN News Central and asked him about the Senate bill, which includes aid to Israel and Ukraine. Keillor noted that House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) has criticized the bill for not including border security provisions.
Van Dine then brought up the Republican border security bill, House Resolution 2, which he said would eliminate “catch and release,” or humanitarian parole, for immigrants. She also spoke about her time as mayor of Irving, Texas, and the partnership she formed with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during her tenure as mayor.
“Let me stop and ask you a few questions about this,” Keillor said. “First, just to be clear, the conviction rate for illegal immigrants is 45 percent lower than the conviction rate for Americans born in your state.
“If you feed the fear that, ‘They create so many crimes, they get convicted,’ when it comes to violent crimes, property crimes, murders, sex crimes, you’ve talked in court. ” Keillor said. There have been rape cases in the past, but the numbers don’t support that. But let’s focus on “catch and release.” ”
Van Dine then began to interrupt Keillor and the two women began talking to each other. Keillor then tried to bring up the topic of catch-and-release again, saying that any investigation into the practice “needs to look at what’s causing it, and it’s an open judicial question.” ” he pointed out. She also pointed to the recently failed bipartisan Foreign Aid and Border Agreement, which she said would have cracked down on the implementation of humanitarian parole.
“Actually, that wouldn’t have happened,” Van Dine interjected, beginning to interrupt Keillor again, repeatedly disagreeing with her opinion.
The two began talking again, and Keillor said he would “terminate the interview” if Van Dine didn’t let him talk.
“And I’ll let you speak and finish the sentence,” Keillor said.
