
The California Public Employees Retirement System will hold a second round of interviews for the vacant CIO position later this month, following a first round of interviews held over two days in January, according to the fund board’s meeting calendar. is scheduled to be held.
A second interview is scheduled for February 28th on the calendar.
The nation’s largest pension fund has been without a CIO since Nicole Musico resigned after 18 months in September 2023. The fund’s CIO position has been a revolving door, with three different CIOs over the past decade.
CalPERS Deputy CIO Dan Bienvenue is also serving as Acting CIO from 2020 to 2022 following the resignation of former CIO Ben Meng.
CalPERS is moving more quickly than in the previous study, which took more than a year to reach second round interviews in December 2021. At a recent board meeting, CalPERS staff said they hope to identify candidates by the first quarter of 2024.
According to the fund’s interview process documents, the interview committee that meets with each candidate includes CEO Marcy Frost and a board member. After the second round, the next step will be the selection of the final candidate, followed by a background check, and the appointment of a new CIO.
A CalPERS spokesperson said the foundation has no further comment regarding the hiring process.
