Bryce Dallas Howard and Bryan Cranston talk about Argyle
On-Screen Rant: Jason Fuchs, who wrote the film, said that Matthew Bourne pushes people outside their comfort zones, and that's where the magic happens.how argyle Push both of you out of your comfort zone. Can you talk about working with Matthew as a director?
Bryce Dallas Howard: What you quoted about Jason Fuchs, our writer and producer, is exactly right. The ambitious nature of this movie alone pushes everyone outside of their comfort zone, and it's thrilling. And it's especially thrilling when you feel like you can do it safely. That's the job. Maybe you go a little too far, embarrass yourself, or even contradict yourself.
But in between, there are discoveries that wouldn't happen unless that permission was given, and Matthew certainly gave everyone permission to go there. It's definitely a wild ride and very, very, very exciting.
Bryan Cranston: Well, the tone and style of Matthew Vaughn films requires you to dive into the unknown and explore yourself. He certainly encourages it and will be shouting it out loud on set. “Try this, try this. Go further, go further. No, hold back, now go…” It's a little chaotic because he yells, but it also increases the energy and excites me. Masu. . It's all an exploration and a huge exercise of trust. I can understand what the characters want, but I don't necessarily know for myself where the twist is.
The signposts that say “this leads to this, this leads to that” are not easy to follow. It's like, “Oh, I just rushed here and now I rushed there.” That's why you need to watch it until the end in theaters. If you miss little parts here and there, you'll be lost. Must see twice.
Bryce, you play Ellie Conway. What would you like to bring to Ellie that is not listed on the page?
Bryce Dallas Howard: Well, I loved playing Ellie, and my mother is a novelist, so I really related to her. I grew up in a household with a mother who was an introvert, a dedicated worker, and a thorough researcher who owned a million cats.
I felt like I understood it because that was my model for life. And in general, I think it's really, really, really fun to play a character who has a very limited worldview and then gets pushed out of that comfort zone. In some ways, this character is going through what I as an actor and all of us are going through, and that's very rewarding.
