A co-chairman of President Biden’s campaign said Sunday that the president made the “right choice” to skip an interview with CBS News ahead of the Super Bowl.
“No. I don’t think so,” Biden campaign co-chairman Mitch Landrieu said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” when asked whether Biden should have given the Super Bowl interview. He answered:
“I think people want to watch the Super Bowl tonight and think about football. They don’t want to hear what politicians think. So I think he made the right choice for himself at this point. ” he added.
The network confirmed earlier this month that Biden would not be available for an interview with CBS News before Sunday’s Super Bowl. The game is scheduled to kick off at 6:30 p.m. ET, and is scheduled to kick off in the millions, especially as the buzz surrounding the romance between pop star Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce continues to garner attention. It is expected to attract a large number of viewers.
During his first two years in office, Biden gave interviews to NBC and CBS, which broadcast games, but last year he declined to speak to Fox News before the big game.
Pre-Super Bowl interviews have become somewhat traditional for presidents in recent years, with former Presidents Obama and Trump each conducting interviews while in office. However, Trump chose to skip a pre-Super Bowl interview with NBC News in 2018.
