BATON ROUGE — The McNeese softball team lost 8-0 (6 in) to Louisiana Tech early Sunday, ending the final day of the LSU Purple and Gold Challenge. They faced LSU and suffered a 2-1 loss for the second straight day. Ends tournament play.
McNeese fell to 12 wins and 8 losses on the year. Los Angeles Tech improved to 12-3, while LSU remained undefeated at 18-0. McNeese will host La Tech next Tuesday in the first of five home games for the Cowgirls starting at 6 p.m.
The Bulldogs scored one run in the first inning and finished the game with seven runs in the sixth inning on five hits and two Cowgirl errors.McNeese had five hits in the game. LSU tied the score in the fifth inning with an RBI single by Taylor Pleasants and took a 2-1 lead on a short hit by Laelaine Gutierrez.
McNeese tied the score with one out in the seventh inning when Riley Bouvier hit a timely hit to the right field, but the threat ended with a double play and the game ended.
The Cowgirls had four hits, with Gaspard getting the only base hit. LSU got five hits from Sanders.
