The Texas Tech Red Raiders threatened to turn the Prestige of the PGA West men’s college golf tournament into a one-man affair Tuesday, opening up a 10-stroke lead at the end of the second day of play.
Texas Tech, the first-round leader at 13 under, shot an 11-under 273 in the second 18 holes on a cool, cloudy day at La Quinta’s PGA West Norman Course. With a total of 24 under par for 36 holes, Texas Tech finished with a total of 544, 10 strokes ahead of Kansas. The Jayhawks were 8 under for Tuesday’s round.
Duke is in sole third place with an 11-under score of 557, 13 shots behind Texas Tech, which will play Wednesday’s final round. Play begins at 6:45 a.m. on the 1st and 10th tees, with the top teams teeing off at 11 a.m.
In the individual tournament held at the Norman course, Cecil Belair (Kansas State) took the lead with a 5-under 66, giving him a two-day total of 9-under 133. Colorado State’s three golfers, Ethan Evans (Duke), Petr Hruby (Washington) and Connor Jones (Washington), are tied for second with 134 RBIs. All three second-place golfers shot 68 on Tuesday.

Michael Thorbjornsen (Stanford), who is top of the PGA Tour U rankings and fourth in the amateur world rankings, is tied for 25th place after rounds of 71 and 69.
Texas Tech was led Tuesday in a five-play, four-score format by Bird Skogen, who shot a 65, including seven birdies in 10 holes. Callum Scott hit 68, Matthew Coggies hit 69 and first round individual leader Tyrann Snyders hit 71.
In another 60-player individual tournament at Terra Lago Golf Resort in Indio, Texas Tech’s Charlie DeLong took a 36-hole lead with a 6-under 138, including a second-round 68. Auburn’s Josiah Gilbert and Stanford’s Dean Glasserman each shot 139, one stroke behind. Gilbert and Glaiserman both shot 68 on Tuesday.
