A reset is occurring in New England as the Patriots move on from Hall of Fame coach Bill Belichick. New head coach Jerod Mayo reached out to a pair of coaches from Kyle Shanahan’s tree. Former Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy was the quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator for the Green Bay Packers before going to Chicago.
And now San Francisco 49ers tight ends coach Brian Fleury has 13 seasons of coaching experience on both sides of the ball. Fleury is in his fifth year with the 49ers and second year as tight ends coach. He previously served as an offensive and defensive quality control coach. Prior to coming to the Bay Area, Fleury spent three years with the Miami Dolphins, working as a football research analyst and director of football research.
Tight ends aren’t a position that requires multiple coaches, so the 49ers will either need to promote one of their quality control coaches or go out of the building and hire a new tight ends coach.
This is a great opportunity for Fleury and I’m sure he has worked hard to get it. It’s time for position coach George Kittle to get some recognition.
