Singapore Airlines is no longer the world’s best airline, with Qatar Airways taking the top spot, according to air transport ratings company Skytrax.
Qatar Airways said this was the eighth time it had topped the rankings since 2011. The airline was ranked second last year.
Skytrax announced on Monday that Singapore Airlines now sits in second place on the rankings, with Emirates moving up one place from last year to third place.
Asian airlines dominate the top 10, with no US airlines at the top of the rankings. Delta Air Lines remains the highest-ranked US airline for the 21st consecutive year.st It dropped one place from last year.
The awards are based on a customer survey, with Skytrax saying that customers from more than 100 countries responded for the 2023-2024 edition. As well as ranking the top airlines, Skytrax also handed out a series of awards, including a regional breakdown and awards for various flight types.
Overall winner Qatar Airways was also named the world’s best business class and best airline in the Middle East, while runner-up Singapore Airlines topped the lists for the world’s best cabin crew, best first class and best airline in Asia.
When it comes to budget travel, Malaysia’s AirAsia topped the list of best low-cost airlines, while Singapore’s Scoot was named the best low-cost airline for long-haul flights.
Rounding out the top 10 in North America is Delta Air Lines, followed by Air Canada, United Airlines, Porter Airlines and Air Transat. Three of the top five are based in Canada, while other major U.S. airlines rank lower.
