Jack Jones celebrated his “unexpected” appearance in the world championship final against Kyren Wilson on Sunday after defeating Stuart Bingham.
Speaking to Eurosport after the win, Jones admitted he had no confidence in making the final, and said his reaction was tempered because expectations are rarely exceeded.
He said: “It feels good, but this season has been a little unexpected. I’ve had a lot of disappointments in my career, so I’m not too excited or depressed.
“I watched the world finals every year and thought what a dream it was, what an amazing opportunity. So it’s a little strange to be there myself.”
Jones spoke about his parents’ involvement in Sheffield over the years. At first, he said his father’s approach calmed him down.
“Maybe my dad helped me. He’s here so we don’t talk too much about snooker or get too excited about what happens in the sessions,” he said. .
“I don’t feel like I played well, I didn’t come here with confidence. I wish I had worn something better for the people watching. If anything, I… Even though we’re winning like this, I don’t think it can get any better.
“If it was expected something would have happened, but it just came out of nowhere, so it’s a great moment.”
