The 27-year-old, who posted a 4-under score in the first round of the PGA Championship on Thursday, was stopped and handcuffed early Friday morning.
After the pedestrian fatality, Scheffler backed his car for several miles to the entrance to a golf course and attempted to drive past a police officer, according to ESPN.
ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington said: “The accident is significant. It was early in the morning here at Valhalla Golf Club, still very dark and rainy. An accident occurred on the road just past the entrance to Valhalla Golf Club. there were.

After being taken into custody, Scheffler was photographed getting into a police car and then being driven away.
