Taking sports seriously
The world’s best golfer has made it to Paris and, as expected, the Olympic version of him is no different.
The opening ceremony will have no big-name guests, no fanfare and no celebrities.
No, Scottie Scheffler was pushing a stroller through the Louvre and barely anyone noticed him.
“A few photos,” Scheffler told reporters at Le Golf National on Monday, and maybe “a few people looked at me funny” at times.
“We were there for two hours,” he said, “looking around at the old paintings and felt like we could have been there for days.”

Scheffler qualified as one of four golfers on the U.S. team and will make his Olympic debut this week in the men’s tournament that begins Thursday at Le Golf National near Paris. Scheffler joins reigning Olympic champion Xander Schauffele, Wyndham Clark and Collin Morikawa in a field expected to feature 60 players.
Scheffler has won six tournaments so far in 2024, so it’s hard not to consider him a favorite to win the gold medal.

But this is an entirely different type of event, and while the four-round structure and individual competition may resemble a typical pro golf tournament, “there’s definitely a different atmosphere this week,” Scheffler said.
First, he’s on a family trip to Europe. His wife, Meredith, and their newborn son are with him in France. They’re going to watch a gymnastics event on Tuesday, and a table tennis match on Sunday.
“We’ll really get into tournament mode on Wednesday and that’ll probably be the end of the festivities for the week,” he said.
“Winning a gold medal would be very special and that’s definitely one of the reasons I came here this week. I love going to watch table tennis, but that’s not why I came.”
