The second round of the World Matchplay Darts 2024 continues on Wednesday night with three-time champion Michael van Gerwen making another appearance after knocking out teenage darts star Luke Littler.
Little, 17, failed to get out of the first round on debut at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens before Van Gerwen won 10-6 in their 10th meeting on Monday.
The Dutchman will face Joe Cullen on Wednesday. Michael Smith is also bidding for a quarter-final spot, while PDC world number one and world champion Luke Humphries is already in the quarter-finals after winning his second round match on Tuesday.
The tournament, now in its 31st year, will begin on Saturday, July 13th and run through to the final on Sunday, July 21st.
How much prize money is there in World Matchplay Darts?
The total prize pool for World Matchplay Darts 2024 is £800,000.
All 32 players are guaranteed a minimum of £10,000, with that increasing to £15,000 for those who make it to the second round.
The quarter-finalists will receive £30,000, the semi-finalists £50,000 and the finalist £100,000.
The winner will receive a cheque for £200,000 and the Phil Taylor Trophy.

Who will be competing in World Matchplay Darts?
The current top three in the PDC World Rankings – Luke Humphreys, Michael van Gerwen and Michael Smith – are among the players still competing in this year’s World Matchplay Darts tournament.
Humphries has previously reached the quarter-finals alongside Dimitri van den Bergh and the pair will face off on Thursday night, along with Ross Smith and James Wade.
The latter two knocked out world number four Gerwyn Price and defending champion Nathan Aspinall respectively on Tuesday to book their spots in the quarterfinals.
Joining Smith in the quarter-final spot on Wednesday will be Chris Dobey, with Krzysztof Ratajski, Andrew Gilding, Rob Cross and Ryan Searle also in the running.
