The World Matchplay resumes in earnest today.
Michael Smith defeated Chris Doby 11-9 today.
Photos of kids inspired Bully Boy
Michael Smith has revealed that photos of his children helped him stay focused as he stumbled after a close victory over his best friend at darts.
Bully Boy held off a relentless fightback from Chris Dobey to win 11-9 and reach the quarter-finals of the World Matchplay.
When asked why he kept looking down between visits to Oche, Smith replied: “I kept looking at pictures of my kids.”
“They had come a long way to see me, and I was like, ‘That’s not what I came all the way for.'”
But with Dobie producing some magical moments, the verdict on Smith’s “nervous” performance was a bit harsh.
Luke is already gone
Michael van Gerwen has slammed Luke Littler for not being “unstoppable” and said players should not be “afraid” of him.
The Dutchman ruthlessly outplayed the 17-year-old on Monday night in his World Matchplay debut at the Winter Gardens.
And he said: “It was a really big win for me.
“In the Premier League you play so often that it becomes normal but this time it’s different. You need to have the beast come out of you.”
“Littler had the advantage of being in good form. He was in good form and playing really well.”
“We know he’s not an unstoppable player. This is a sign for other players who are scared of him to step up and do the right thing and play your game.”
“I know he’s a big name and has a lot of fans. He’s done a great job in the sport, but he still has to keep fighting.”
