Millions of people are expected to take part in today’s World Environment Day.
The host country, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, will host a high-level policy event in the capital Riyadh, where UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Executive Director Inger Andersen will deliver a keynote address, followed by discussions on this year’s theme: land restoration, desertification and drought resilience.
This year, a record 3,500 World Environment Day events were registered, sparking environmental action to restore ecosystems around the world.
From planting trees in the Maldives and Kenya to unveiling large-scale urban murals in the US and activities at zoos across Ireland, Singapore and India, millions of people are coming together to mark the anniversary this year.
