This Friday, communities across Bradford will come together for a vigil of prayer for international peace to mark World Day of Prayer.
On this World Day of Prayer, we offer our prayers for peace for all people around the world.
The World Day of Prayer is a global ecumenical movement led by Christian women that dates back 19 years.th century. It is held on March 1st every year.
This year’s theme is “Please, love each other and be patient.” Bradford Cathedral organized a service around this message, including music, readings and prayers.
Later that night, different communities across the city will participate in a “Prayer Vigil for International Peace.”
The Reverend Pete Gunstone, Minor Canon of Worship and Formation, said:
“At a time of international tension and conflict in many parts of the world, we call on people from all communities to come together here on the World Day of Prayer to pray for international peace.”
The Rev. Kathy Milford, co-leader of the day’s activities, said that since World Day of Prayer was established almost a century ago, 146 countries have taken turns joining the movement every year to deepen understanding. He explained that he was preparing for a church service.
This year it is the turn of Palestinian Christian women.

“On this World Day of Prayer, Palestinian Christian women are calling us to connect with the land where Jesus came from. Where he was born, served and died, and where our faith began and took root.” It’s a place.
“Despite living in areas of the world where conflict continues and the future is uncertain, Palestinian women lovingly remind us that we are there and offer hope to all. I want to give.”
Bradford Cathedral – Friday 1 March – World Day of Prayer service at 2pm and International Prayer Vigil for Peace at 6pm.
