The couple’s car was heavily damaged in the accident, which happened around 12:30pm, and a truck driver provided first aid to the couple on the BR-116 federal highway in Brazil’s Campina Grande do Sul state.
Both men were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, and police reported that their breath alcohol levels were within the legal limit for drunk driving, NeedToKnow reported.
Dunga and his wife were driving from Sao Paulo to Curitiba at the time, and the 1994 World Cup winner, whose real name is Carlos Caetano Bredrun Verri, was driving in pouring rain.
The road they were on was full of curves. The former defensive midfielder and his wife were released from the hospital on Sunday (July 14) morning.
Fernando Cesar Oliveira of the Federal Highway Police said: “This section is very winding, but many drivers do not adhere to the speed limit of 80 kilometres (50 miles) per hour for light vehicles and 60 kilometres (37 miles) per hour for heavy vehicles.”
“When it rains and the road surface gets wet, the median is actually on a slope, which increases the risk of losing control on curves and rolling over.”
