On some days, it might be common to feel like your body is dragging and consider taking a break from training. You might be better off sleeping than trying to get motivated and stick to your routine. If you're looking forward to seeing or seeing friends at the fitness center, it might be just what you need to get your juices flowing and get outside.
At Pottstown Athletic Club in Pottstown, the social component of our workouts is very important. In general, fitness centers serve as community hubs where people often feel a special connection and sense of belonging. Pottstown Athletic Club is accessible to him 24/7, so many members meet day and night to train. A club's community culture is a big part of its personality.
“A nurse might be working overtime and not be able to come in until 2 a.m., so we're all meeting up and texting each other and saying, 'Hey, would you like to do this training with us?'” Rob Matthews says. Since 1992, he has been the owner and operator of the Pottstown Athletic Club.
members become friends
Whether participating in CrossFit, Olympic weightlifting, or dragon boat training, members often become friends through competing in the same sport. Matthews shared a variety of benefits beyond increased camaraderie and social connections.
“It's all about the push. It's friendly competition, so it's motivating,” he said. “Sometimes people come to hang out at night.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, when you work out with a friend, you're more likely to do three things that will help you reach your workout goals: It's about feeling more motivated, being more adventurous, and being more consistent.
I feel more motivated
When we are motivated, we can encourage each other, which helps us do our best. In this case, friendly competition is also beneficial. When it comes to increasing your sense of adventure, having friends with you may make you more likely to try new things. When it comes to consistency, you're more likely to stay accountable to your workout routine if your friends expect you to join them.
There are many benefits to attending a workout together, whether it's a significant other, sibling, or friend, but Matthews makes it clear to his members that he wants everyone to feel comfortable at the club. There is one.
“We're not Match.com,” he said. “This is not a place to come looking for a date.”
Let's interact and talk
In addition to meeting members through their favorite sports, Pottstown Athletic Club offers a recovery program where individuals in recovery receive six free classes per week.
“They're excited to hang out after training, socialize, talk and share their experiences,” Matthews said. “The social element is important here.”
