Winners announced at Liverpool City Region Cultural Creation Awards, Africa Oe scoops People’s Choice Award

Africa Oye, Roger Phillips and actress Elsie Kelly were among the winners at last night’s Liverpool City Region Cultural Creation Awards.
BBC Question of Sport captain and Olympic gold medalist Sam Quek MBE took to the stage at St Helens Rugby League Stadium to preside over a glittering ceremony celebrating the creative talent and achievements of people across the city region.
The music festival “Africa Oye” has been awarded the People’s Choice Award for Outstanding Contribution to Culture after more than 3,000 votes cast by the public.
Actor and comedian Johnny Vegas presented the Jury Inspiration Award (Lifetime Achievement Award) to Liverpool-born actress Elsie Kelly, mother of Benidorm, and Roger Phillips was recognized for his 42 years of service to the BBC. Awarded.

Other winners included National Museums Liverpool winning the Brand New Innovation of the Year category for its ‘House of Memory on the Road’ project, as well as International Reach for Global Musical Moment during Eurovision. The award was established in 2019 as part of Mayor Steve Rotherham’s commitment to invest 1% of the combined authority’s budget in cultural activities, and recognizes the contribution that the cultural and creative sector makes to the region and how they help people. It celebrates the difference it brings to the lives of people.
