An American dog has been named the ugliest dog in the world.
An 8-year-old Pekingese called Wild Tan has won the 2024 World’s Ugliest Dog competition. California on friday.
The animal has competed in the contest five times, coming in second place three times, before finally winning the top prize this year.
According to the biography, Wild Tan contracted canine distemper, a viral disease, as a puppy.
“He survived but was left with permanent damage,” it read.
“Because his teeth haven’t yet come in, his tongue sticks out and his right front leg flaps around the clock.”
Aside from his physical issues, he is a “healthy, happy, attractive/ugly guy.”
He and his owner, Ann Lewis, walked away with a cheque for $5,000 (£4,000).
The World’s Ugliest Dog contest has been running for nearly 50 years and, according to the event’s website, “celebrates the imperfections that make all dogs special and unique.”
According to the site, the event is “not about making fun of ‘ugly dogs’, but about having fun with great characters and showing the world how beautiful these dogs truly are.”
