Joel Dahmen and Geno Bonaly have quickly become one of the most popular player-caddie duos on the PGA Tour, but some of Bonaly’s fans may not know about some of his accomplishments.
How many caddies can say they have a place in the Guinness World Records?
Bonaly was a guest on this week’s episode of the Subpar Podcast, during which he spoke about his “Full Swing” Netflix career, life on the road, and more. three Guinness World Records: Most golf holes played in one week (2,000), Most birdies scored in one week (493), Most birdies scored in 12 hours (67).
What remains a record of this, however, is his 493 birdies in one week.
“I thought 67 birdies in 12 hours was a great result, but at the time there was a loophole that allowed you to hit 18 par-5s in the shortest possible time,” he said. [I played] “It was still semi-short, but the Guinness guidelines mean it had to be over 6,000 yards. So, of course 6,000 yards is short, but I think you can play a lot of 420-yard par 5s and get a lot of birdies.”
Keeping the scorebook was also labor-intensive: two independent scorers had to be present at all times and could not work for more than four consecutive hours, scorecards had to be accompanied by affidavits attesting to the score, and hundreds of scorecards and summary sheets had to be mailed.
“It was a lot of work,” he said. “It was pretty hard work.”
